Argentine actor and comedian José Luis Gioia is currently undergoing a rehabilitation program following a serious health episode. The 73-year-old artist suffered an ischemic stroke and meningoencephalitis, which required him to spend several days in intensive care under sedation and mechanical ventilation.

His daughter, Sofía Bellocq, recently provided an update on his condition, noting that her father is showing positive signs of improvement. While he is no longer in critical condition, the primary focus of his current medical treatment is to regain the physical strength necessary to walk normally again. Bellocq stated that the family is monitoring his progress day by day as he works with specialized physical therapists.

The medical journey began on October 11, when Gioia was admitted to the Clínica y Maternidad Suizo Argentina. Following his initial treatment, doctors began the process of waking him from a medically induced coma on October 17, to which he responded favorably. By October 30, he was discharged from the facility and transferred to the Clínica Alcla, an institution dedicated to integral rehabilitation, where he remains under professional supervision.

Reports regarding his health first emerged through journalist Maru Leone, who noted the severity of the situation during a radio broadcast. According to those reports, the actor required intensive care and respiratory assistance for approximately one week during the most critical phase of his illness.

Addressing public speculation regarding the circumstances of his illness, Bellocq clarified that her father was not on a film set when he suffered the stroke. Although Gioia is currently involved in the production of the second season of the Prime Video series "Menem," which chronicles the life of the former Argentine president, his daughter emphasized that the health emergency occurred outside of his professional filming schedule.

Bellocq described her father as being "situated in time and space," which medical professionals consider a positive indicator of his neurological recovery. While the family awaits more concrete medical reports from the team at the rehabilitation clinic, they have expressed gratitude for the care he has received thus far.

With a career spanning over five decades, Gioia is a well-known figure in the entertainment industry. His extensive resume includes roles in television, theater, and cinema, most notably his performance as Inspector Báez in the Academy Award-winning film "The Secret in Their Eyes." As he continues his recovery, his family has asked for patience while they focus on his health and rehabilitation progress.
