Al Nassr Defeats Al Faisaly as Cristiano Ronaldo Nears Milestone

Cristiano Ronaldo moved closer to his milestone of 1,000 career goals by scoring in Al Nassr's 3-1 away victory against Al Faisaly on Friday. The win temporarily propelled manager Ange Postecoglou's squad level at the top of the Saudi Pro League standings.

The match began with a quick breakthrough for the visitors at the Al Majma’a Sport City Stadium. Forward Abdullah Al-Hamdan opened the scoring in the fourth minute, finding the bottom-right corner with a right-footed strike from the edge of the penalty area. The early goal marked the fastest strike of Al-Hamdan's career in the Saudi Pro League and brought his season tally to three goals.

Al Nassr doubled their lead shortly after the second half commenced. Just three minutes after the restart, Ronaldo met a free-kick delivered by his compatriot Joao Felix, converting with a powerful header. The strike brought the 41-year-old Portuguese star's career total in official matches to 982 goals, encompassing 836 club goals and 146 international goals.

Ronaldo thought he had added a second goal later in the match, but VAR disallowed the effort for offside. Shortly after, Al Faisaly responded when substitute Theo Bongonda scored with a close-range header to cut into the deficit and give the home side renewed hope.

However, Al Nassr sealed the three points 11 minutes before full-time. Al-Hamdan chested a lofted pass from Ronaldo into the path of substitute Angelo, who fired home to secure the final 3-1 scoreline.

With the victory, Al Nassr joined Al-Qadsiah at the summit of the league table, though Al-Qadsiah held the top spot on goal difference with a game in hand. Meanwhile, the defeat left Al Faisaly struggling in the lower half of the standings after managing only one victory in their previous five league outings.
