Spanish football is in deep mourning following the death of CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel, who passed away at the age of 30 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a league match against FC Andorra. The tragic incident occurred on Monday night during the final moments of the fixture at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, which ended in a 2-2 draw before being abandoned.

The fatal sequence began near the centerline as the match entered stoppage time. FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out of his penalty area to halt a Tenerife counterattack, resulting in a violent collision with de Miguel. The forward collapsed to the turf unconscious, prompting immediate concern from players and officials on the pitch. Owono received a straight red card for the challenge.

Medical personnel rushed onto the field to perform emergency CPR for more than five minutes, successfully restoring the player's pulse before transporting him via ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. Initial reports from the hospital indicated that de Miguel was stable despite the severity of his condition, but his neurological state deteriorated overnight.

CD Tenerife officially confirmed the player's passing at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. In a heartfelt statement, the club expressed profound sorrow, saying, "Broken with grief, with a knot in our throats and unable to believe this is true, we at CD Tenerife announce the tragic passing this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda."

Following the confirmation of his death, tributes poured in from across the sports world. Major clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético de Madrid, alongside the Royal Spanish Football Federation and LaLiga president Javier Tebas, expressed their condolences. FC Andorra and club president Gerard Piqué also shared public messages of devastation and support for the player's family.

In the wake of the tragedy, fans gathered outside Gate 8 of the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium to leave flowers, candles, and messages in a solemn impromptu memorial. CD Tenerife announced plans to hold a formal tribute for supporters this coming Saturday, while the Cabildo of Tenerife declared a day of official mourning, and UEFA mandated a moment of silence for this week's matches.

Spanish authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the death under judicial supervision, as standard procedure for non-natural deaths. Meanwhile, local legal experts note that criminal prosecution is unlikely since the incident occurred during regular gameplay, pending a review by the Sports Disciplinary Committee and the referee's official match report.
