Chelsea prepares to host Tottenham Hotspur in a high-stakes Premier League London derby at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues looking to extend their strong run of form against their fierce rivals. Chelsea enters the fixture sitting fourth in the league table with 14 points, while Tottenham sits in 15th position with seven points after securing their first win of the campaign in their previous outing.

The Blues have enjoyed tremendous success in this matchup in recent years, winning each of their last six league games against the north London side. This matches their joint-longest ever winning league run against Tottenham, a feat previously achieved between January 2000 and March 2002. Furthermore, Tottenham has historically struggled at Stamford Bridge, winning only one of their last 36 league visits to the stadium.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has called for composure from his squad as they experience the intensity of the rivalry for the first time. Speaking ahead of the match, Alonso emphasized the importance of balance, stating that the team must play with heart, head, and intelligence while keeping their emotions in check amidst the vibrant atmosphere generated by the fans.

The home side enters the derby following consecutive league victories, having defeated Bournemouth 5-1 and Everton 2-0. In their previous victory against Everton, Chelsea secured their first Premier League clean sheet in 23 games, though they are searching for back-to-back shutouts for the first time since December of last season.

Chelsea's lineup will see a forced change in goal following an injury to Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine goalkeeper sustained a jaw injury during the second half of the match against Everton after a collision with defender Jarrad Branthwaite, requiring a stretcher off the field and subsequent surgery. Alonso confirmed that Martinez will be sidelined for several weeks.

With Martinez unavailable, young goalkeeper Mike Penders is set to start against Tottenham. Alonso expressed confidence in Penders, noting that the goalkeeper has performed well in training and cup matches, displaying strong personality and qualities during his brief appearance on the pitch against Everton.

In addition to Martinez, Chelsea will be missing Pep Chavarria and Emmanuel Megha due to injuries, though defender Malo Gusto is fit and available for selection after missing the Everton fixture. Chavarria is increasing his training workload but is not yet ready to return to competitive action.

Tottenham, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, arrives at Stamford Bridge seeking their first away victory of the season. As the match gets underway with Chris Kavanagh serving as the referee, both sides look to secure crucial points in the Premier League table.
