Claudia Rodríguez Shares Shocking Experience After Train Crash in Spain
The partner of Real Madrid defender Marc Cucurella was traveling on a train behind the high-speed rail disaster in Toledo that left dozens dead.
Claudia Rodríguez, partner of Real Madrid defender Marc Cucurella, revealed on social media that she was traveling on a train directly behind the high-speed rail services involved in a deadly crash in Spain. The tragic collision occurred on Wednesday morning near Urda, in the province of Toledo, sending shockwaves across the country.
The disaster took place when a Renfe AVE high-speed train collided with a stationary Iryo service that had stopped on the tracks. Multiple carriages derailed and plunged down an embankment. While conflicting reports emerged regarding the exact death toll, official updates indicated that at least 68 to 74 people lost their lives, and approximately 80 others sustained injuries.
Rodríguez was journeying from Madrid to Málaga when the route was abruptly halted. Taking to Instagram, she shared her immediate reaction to the unfolding emergency while publishing contact numbers to assist affected passengers and their relatives. "I was heading to Málaga on the train behind; I'm in shock. All my support to the families and friends of the victims," she wrote.
As concerned followers inquired about her safety, Rodríguez posted an update clarifying that her specific train was not physically involved in the impact and remained at a considerable distance from the wreckage. However, because the convoy shared the same corridor, passengers were forced to turn around and travel back to Madrid.
Reflecting on the close call, Rodríguez expressed deep empathy for those directly affected by the catastrophe. "I felt sick thinking that if it had happened later, it could have happened to my train, but please, nothing compared to what the people who were actually on it must have gone through," she noted, emphasizing that her own ordeal paled in comparison to the suffering of the victims.
The Spanish government responded to the national tragedy by declaring three days of official mourning. Emergency crews worked extensively through the wreckage, and transportation authorities paused high-speed services along the corridor while investigations into the cause of the collision continued.
Marc Cucurella also used social media to voice his sympathy, offering a warm embrace and strength to all those impacted by the Toledo disaster and their grieving families. The tragedy has deeply affected the sports community, prompting the postponement of scheduled Copa del Rey matches as the nation mourns the lives lost.
