James Acaster stunned his fellow contestants on the reality TV show by confessing he was a reluctant traitor before the grand finale.

Comedian James Acaster sparked chaos on the latest episode of The Celebrity Traitors by suddenly revealing his secret identity as a traitor just before the show's final. After facing mounting suspicion from his fellow players regarding a murder in the castle, Acaster announced at the roundtable that he had never wanted to play on the dark side.

During the tense discussion, Acaster struggled to defend himself against accusations and ultimately decided to call time on his own game. He told his fellow contestants that he had been assigned the role against his will and desperately wanted to play as a faithful throughout the entire competition.

The surprising confession left the room dumbfounded, with comedian Romesh Ranganathan, who has known Acaster for over a decade, stating that trying to play both sides was a very typical move for him and adding that he respected him for it. Acaster admitted that a massive weight had been lifted off his shoulders once he was caught.

The unexpected exit leaves the remaining players to head into the final showdown with two active traitors, Maya Jama and King Kenny, alongside a group of faithfuls that includes Romesh Ranganathan, Michael Sheen, James Blunt, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Sebastian Croft.

Before Acaster's self-banishment, the episode saw actress Joanne McNally eliminated at the roundtable and actress Sharon Rooney murdered overnight. The remaining contestants continue to battle for the cash prize pot, which stands at £64,500 and is expected to increase during the final episode.
