Cyril Hanouna faces legal complaint following remarks about journalist
The television host is accused of defamation and public insults after targeting a regional newspaper reporter on air.
Television host Cyril Hanouna is facing a criminal complaint filed on October 29 by the League for the Defense of Republican Values and Rights. The legal action accuses the presenter of defamation, moral harassment, and public insults following an incident on October 20 during his program "Tout Beau, Tout N9uf" on W9.
The controversy began after Maxime Fettweis, a journalist for the newspaper Ouest-France, published an article discussing the show's coverage of political demonstrations. According to reports, the article highlighted that political and societal debates were no longer supposed to be a primary focus for the M6 group, which had committed to centering its programs on entertainment.
Dissatisfied with the coverage, Hanouna addressed the journalist personally during his broadcast that same evening. His production team reportedly investigated the reporter, allowing the host to broadcast details about his personal background and offer him and his family a public selfie.
The civil rights organization argued that exposing the journalist's professional background and mentioning his family led to him becoming the target of severe cyberharassment across social media platforms.
In response to the broadcast, Ouest-France publisher François-Xavier Lefranc defended the reporter and condemned the actions of the television host. "While the right to criticism is obviously legitimate, Ouest-France will never accept this kind of intimidation and intends to defend the honor and integrity of its journalists," Lefranc stated.
Alongside this legal challenge, Hanouna's daily talk show has seen other developments, including upcoming temporary absences among its regular cast members. Former Miss France Delphine Wespiser is set to step away from the program for several weeks to host the upcoming season of another reality television production in Mexico.
Despite various controversies and changes surrounding his television projects, Hanouna continues to host his daily broadcast on W9, navigating both ongoing public friction with other media figures and legal scrutiny from advocacy groups.
