Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a stellar 43-point performance to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a hard-fought 117-112 road victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday at Rocket Arena. The win allowed the Thunder to halt a two-game losing streak and improve their record to 4-2.

Oklahoma City arrived in Cleveland facing a significant injury crisis, playing without key starters Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, and Cason Wallace, alongside other sidelined rotation players like Alex Caruso. The team had recently suffered consecutive 20-point blowout defeats to the Dallas Rockets and Houston Rockets.

Despite the depleted roster, Gilgeous-Alexander took control by shooting 14-of-35 from the field, including four three-pointers, while adding eight assists in 38 minutes of action. His defining moment came with just 32 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter when he hit a tiebreaking stepback three-pointer over Sam Merrill to secure the lead for good.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault praised the two-time reigning NBA Most Valuable Player for stepping up during a difficult stretch. "There are certain nights, when you have a player like that, where you kind of just unleash them and let them go," Daigneault said. Gilgeous-Alexander acknowledged that he needed to adjust his personal energy following a stressful week of injuries across the franchise.

Supportive contributions from the bench and secondary options were crucial for Oklahoma City. Ajay Mitchell bounced back from a tough outing in Houston to score 20 points, operating effectively as the team's secondary offensive creator. Meanwhile, center Isaiah Hartenstein anchored the glass and defense, tallying 14 rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

The Cavaliers spread their scoring throughout the lineup, with seven players reaching double figures. Donovan Mitchell and Meleek Thomas each contributed 17 points for Cleveland, but the defense ultimately failed to contain Gilgeous-Alexander down the stretch as he scored 13 of his points in the final period.

The victory serves as a morale boost as the Thunder navigate a challenging early-season schedule hampered by long-term injuries. Oklahoma City will look to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign following the league's scheduled rest day.
