High Pressure System Brings Mild Weather Before Expected Weekend Rain
A dominant high-pressure system across central Europe is keeping conditions mostly stable, though cooler temperatures and scattered rain are forecast to arrive by Friday.
A dominant high-pressure system across central Europe continues to dictate weather conditions across various regions, bringing predominantly stable and sunny skies to many areas. According to meteorologist Lorenzo Badellino of 3BMeteo, this extensive area of high pressure has forced Atlantic storm tracks to remain at much more northerly latitudes, shielding parts of the continent from immediate disturbances.
While southern regions and parts of Emilia-Romagna are experiencing pleasant conditions with temperatures reaching up to 19°C in cities like Bologna, Ferrara, and Ravenna, and up to 22°C in Agrigento, localized morning fog and low clouds have formed along the Po Valley and other flat areas. These early-day phenomena generally dissipate by midday, leaving behind clear skies and mild daytime conditions.
However, this period of widespread stability is beginning to show signs of a gradual decline. As the high-pressure system starts to shift northwestward toward northwestern Europe, its eastern flank is increasingly exposed to a weaker low-pressure circulation. This shift allows cooler and slightly more unstable air currents from the Balkans to flow into the region.
The atmospheric changes will become more noticeable by Thursday and Friday, particularly along the Adriatic and Ionian coasts. Forecasters anticipate an increase in cloud cover and the development of scattered rain showers across the eastern areas, affecting regions such as Marche, Abruzzo, Puglia, Lucania, and eastern Sicily. Some intermittent showers are expected to become more frequent by Friday evening.
In northern regions like Piedmont, the approaching weather front will bring increased cloudiness and cooler temperatures. Daytime highs are projected to drop significantly, with temperatures peaking at around 12°C in Turin and Verbania, and 13°C in Novara. Higher elevations in the Maritime and Ligurian Alps could also see snowfall with flakes expected at elevations starting between 1,300 and 1,400 meters.
The incoming instability is expected to introduce slightly cooler temperatures across affected areas by the end of the workweek, breaking away from the unusually mild conditions recorded earlier in the week. Despite the approaching system, meteorologists suggest that conditions may begin to improve by the weekend, potentially returning to sunnier intervals as the system moves through.
