Hyper U Issues Recall for Chicken Chorizo Paupiettes Due to Salmonella

A food safety recall was issued for chicken chorizo paupiettes sold at the traditional butcher counter of the Hyper U supermarket in Savenay, located in the Pays de la Loire region. The affected items were unbranded and sold individually between October 14 and October 19, 2026.

According to the official advisory published on RappelConso under reference 2026-10-0225, the products were unbranded items that had been unpacked and repassed through the traditional butcher department. Customers who purchased these items are advised not to consume them and are entitled to a full refund.

The recall was prompted by the detection of Salmonella bacteria in the poultry product. Salmonella spp. is known to cause salmonellosis, an infection that typically triggers sudden digestive distress, including severe diarrhea and vomiting, frequently accompanied by fever and headaches.

Health officials note that symptoms generally manifest anywhere from six to 72 hours after consuming a contaminated product. These clinical signs can be particularly severe in vulnerable populations, such as young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals, and the elderly.

Consumers who bought the items during the specified dates are strongly advised to discard them immediately or return them to the store for a refund. Anyone experiencing digestive symptoms after eating the product should consult a healthcare provider and report the consumption.

While food safety standards dictate that thorough cooking to an internal temperature exceeding 65 degrees Celsius destroys Salmonella bacteria in poultry, health authorities maintain that the primary instruction for this specific batch remains complete avoidance and return.
