Hyundai Launches Bayon Compact SUV in India Starting at ₹9.99 Lakh
The new crossover features a built-in generative AI voice assistant and a panoramic display layout.
Hyundai has officially launched its highly anticipated compact SUV, the Hyundai Bayon, in India. Positioned as a new crossover option within the South Korean automaker's lineup, the vehicle sits directly between the Hyundai Creta and the Hyundai Venue. Manufactured locally at the company's Chennai facility, the Bayon carries an introductory price starting at ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Customer bookings are currently underway, with buyers able to reserve the vehicle online by submitting a ₹11,000 token amount or by visiting local Hyundai dealerships in person. Company officials expect vehicle deliveries to commence early in November. The compact SUV is available in seven distinct trim levels: HX2, HX3, HX3+, HX5, HX6, HX8, and HX10.
Transmission options vary by variant, with the HX5, HX6, HX8, and HX10 trims offering a CVT automatic transmission alongside a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated MPi petrol engine that outputs 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. Lower-end trims are restricted to a six-speed manual transmission. Furthermore, Hyundai announced plans to introduce a compressed natural gas variant of the vehicle in January 2027.
The powertrain is supplemented by multiple drive modes, including Eco, Normal, and Sports settings, alongside a Dash Boost Mode designed to enhance vehicle responsiveness during passing maneuvers. Mechanically, the Bayon utilizes a McPherson strut suspension setup at the front and a beam-axle suspension at the rear. Front disc brakes are standard across all models, while higher-tier variants also include rear disc brakes.
Inside the cabin, the Bayon introduces several technological advancements for the brand in the Indian market. It is the first Hyundai model in the region to feature a built-in generative AI voice assistant. Additionally, the vehicle incorporates a Connected Car Navigation Cockpit, utilizing a curved panoramic layout with dual 12.3-inch displays for both infotainment and the digital instrument cluster, complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
Comfort and convenience features include front seat ventilation, an electronically adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, wireless device charging, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera system, and level 2 advanced driver assistance systems. Comprehensive safety provisions come standard, encompassing six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, a rollover sensor, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
