LR Vicenza Defeats Empoli 2-0 Away in Serie B Match

LR Vicenza secured a 2-0 victory against Empoli at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, thanks to goals scored by Nicola Rauti and Giulio Pellizzari. The win propelled Vicenza up to tenth place in the Serie B standings with nine points, opening up a four-point cushion above the relegation zone.

The match began with a balanced first half that saw the visitors strike first. Rauti capitalized on an opportunity during a set-piece sequence to beat the goalkeeper with a deft shot, giving the away side the lead. Despite controlling more of the possession and firing several attempts toward goal through players like Popov and Ceesay, Empoli failed to convert their chances before the halftime whistle.

The complexion of the game shifted further away from the hosts early in the second half. Empoli defender Curto received a direct red card in the 56th minute after being penalized for pulling back opposing forward Morra as he chased down a scoring opportunity. Despite playing a man down, the Tuscan side continued to press forward in search of an equalizer.

Empoli briefly thought they had leveled the score when Cristian Cauz found the back of the net in the 62nd minute following a corner kick and a touch from Shpendi. However, a lengthy VAR review intervened, ruling out the goal due to an earlier offside infraction.

As Empoli poured players forward to find a late goal, Vicenza capitalized on the counterattack to seal the match. In the 85th minute, Zonta robbed possession from Zedadka and set up Pellizzari, who slotted past the keeper to score his first-ever league goal and establish the 2-0 final score after another VAR check confirmed the legality of the buildup.

With the defeat, Empoli remains in the 15th position with seven points. Looking ahead to the upcoming midweek round of fixtures in Serie B, Empoli will travel to face Cesena, while LR Vicenza is set to host Modena on the same evening.
