The Duchess of Sussex released a statement expressing that she is deeply distressed following reports that child sexual abuse images were allegedly found at her estranged father's former home in the Philippines. Meghan stated that her thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed by these actions.

The controversy came to light after Thomas Markle Jr reported to police and the FBI that he had discovered a cache of inappropriate images belonging to their father, Thomas Markle Sr, stored in four large boxes in Cebu. Philippine authorities confirmed that an anti-human trafficking and child sexual exploitation task force is investigating the matter.

Nicholas Ty, undersecretary for the Philippine Department of Justice, told the BBC that the case is actively being reviewed. Additionally, Philippine Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla stated that national police secured Thomas Markle Sr's computer for a comprehensive digital forensic examination, with results anticipated within a week.

In her public response, Meghan revealed that she was made aware of troubling allegations against her father back in 2018. She explained that a letter outlining concerns was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection that same year and subsequently shared with her by authorities, who gave assurances that the matter was under investigation.

The duchess noted that these long-standing concerns explain why she maintained distance from her father and chose not to allow him to have contact with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. "Any distance from my father, and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them," she said.

Describing the latest disclosures as "more sickening than one could ever imagine," Meghan stated that her sincere hope is for justice to be fully served while prioritizing the safety of innocent children. Sources close to the Sussexes indicated that Meghan could not speak publicly about the allegations initially to avoid jeopardizing any future investigation or facing potential legal action.

Meanwhile, 82-year-old Thomas Markle Sr strongly denied the accusations during an interview with the Daily Mail, calling them sick lies and questioning why his son would make such claims. He is currently based in a Florida rehabilitation facility recovering from recent medical procedures. His daughter Samantha also defended him, asserting there is no merit to the allegations, while Thomas Markle Jr insisted he had no option but to report the material after making the discovery.
