The New York Knicks are still searching for their first victory of the new NBA season following a 111-102 defeat against the Orlando Magic on Sunday. This marks the worst start to a season for a reigning NBA champion since the Dallas Mavericks in 2011.

Despite strong offensive efforts from Jalen Brunson, who scored 28 points, alongside OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns with 22 points each, the Knicks could not overcome their shooting struggles. The team converted only nine of their 38 three-point attempts during the matchup.

Knicks head coach Mike Brown pointed out defensive shortcomings after the game, noting that allowing opponents to score heavily in the final periods proved costly. "The reality is that conceding 40 points in the final quarter is too much... When you are not hitting your shots, like we are, you have to find other ways to win the game," Brown stated.

The Orlando Magic capitalized on New York's struggles, led by Franz Wagner, who contributed 23 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists. Wagner's teammate added 21 points specifically in the final quarter to secure Orlando's first victory of the season.

Meanwhile, elsewhere across the league, Luka Doncic delivered a historic performance for the Los Angeles Lakers, scoring 52 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and dishing out ten assists in a 132-123 comeback victory against the Utah Jazz. The Slovenian star surpassed several historical franchise milestones during the game.

In other Sunday matchups, LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers fell 106-93 to the Detroit Pistons, bringing an end to the Sixers' undefeated start. James contributed 18 points, while teammate Tyrese Maxey added 29 points in the losing effort, as Philadelphia played without the injured Joel Embiid.

The Oklahoma City Thunder maintained their perfect record with a 108-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers, paced by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's 34 points. However, the victory was heavily overshadowed by a severe lower-leg injury to Jalen Williams, who had to be wheeled off the court in a stretcher after a hard fall.
