The 2026 World Series begins with Game 1 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, featuring a marquee pitching matchup between Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Nick Martinez and Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST.

Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash officially named Martinez to start the opening game of the Fall Classic. While fellow starters Drew Rasmussen and Freddy Peralta have delivered exceptional performances throughout October, Martinez earned the nod following a stellar regular season and postseason run.

Martinez posted a 3.10 ERA across 180 innings during the regular season, establishing himself as one of the most reliable arms in the Tampa Bay rotation. He was particularly dominant away from his home ballpark, recording a sparkling 2.38 ERA in 16 road starts.

The veteran right-hander also brings familiarity against the Brewers, having allowed just two runs over six innings during a 3-2 victory in Milwaukee earlier this year on March 30. His strong form has seamlessly transitioned into the postseason, where he holds a 1.29 ERA after surrendering only three earned runs across 21 playoff innings.

Most notably, Martinez earned ALCS MVP honors after making three appearances against the Cleveland Guardians, which included a brilliant seven-inning performance in Game 5 that propelled the Rays into the World Series. Manager Kevin Cash noted that having multiple dependable starters provides a distinct advantage as the team chases its first-ever title.

For Milwaukee, the choice of Misiorowski sets the stage for a compelling opening duel. The series continues with Game 2 in Milwaukee before shifting to Tampa Bay for the middle games, with both franchises searching for their first World Series championship in history.
