Real Betis failed to gain ground on La Liga's top three teams on Sunday, settling for a 0-0 draw against Celta Vigo at Abanca Balaídos. Managed by Manuel Pellegrini, the visiting fourth-place squad struggled to find their offensive rhythm during a tightly contested match in Galicia, leaving them trailing third-place Real Madrid by a single point ahead of the later El Clásico fixture.

Despite the scoreless outcome, both teams created scoring opportunities throughout the match. Betis came closest early in the second half when Nelson Deossa rattled a powerful strike off the crossbar in the 52nd minute. Later in stoppage time, forward Troy Parrott missed wide with an attempt inside the penalty area, while Celta's Iago Aspas was denied a late winner when defender Valentín Gómez cleared his shot off the line.

Goalkeeper Álvaro Valles played a crucial role in securing the clean sheet for Betis, making several key saves in the first half to thwart attacks from Pablo Durán and Hugo González. Valles admitted after the final whistle that the outcome was a fair reflection of the match. "We had bad luck on the last play, they had a couple at the end, and we did too; I think it was an even match between two good teams," Valles told DAZN.

Celta Vigo, playing under manager Claudio Giráldez, controlled portions of the second half and looked the more dangerous side after the interval. The hosts moved up to ninth place provisionally with the result. Aspas acknowledged that while the team always aims for all three points, a draw against a tough opponent away from home must be viewed constructively. "The chances are there, and you always have to take the positive," Aspas stated.

Pellegrini expressed a balanced view of the ninety minutes after the game, noting that the hosts held the upper hand before halftime. "It has been a fair draw. They were superior in the first half. We did not play a good first half, either with or without the ball," the Betis coach remarked. He also addressed his tactical decisions, including starting Deossa ahead of Parrott to manage the Irish striker's workload after international duty, and commented that winger Antony is aware he needs to elevate his performances.

The stalemate leaves Betis with twenty points in the standings as they navigate the opening third of the season. Following this league fixture, Betis will prepare for a midweek Copa match against Navalcarnero before hosting Málaga CF in La Liga, while Celta continues to look for consistency as they target a push toward the European qualifying spots.
