Real Madrid claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Barcelona in a thrilling La Liga El Clasico at Camp Nou on Sunday evening. The win snapped the defending champions' perfect start to the league campaign and successfully halved Barcelona's lead at the top of the table, bringing Real Madrid within three points of their arch-rivals.

Manager Jose Mourinho's side took the lead in the 41st minute through a stroke of good fortune. Yan Diomande delivered a low cross into the penalty area, where a clearance attempt by Gerard Martin ricocheted off Kylian Mbappe and into the back of the net. Despite missing several players due to suspension and illness, Los Blancos managed to maintain their narrow advantage heading into the halftime break.

Barcelona responded strongly in the second half. Raphinha leveled the scoreline in the 61st minute, finding the far corner from a tight angle after receiving a precise pass from Pedri and slipping his shot past goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. The hosts pushed hard for a winner, creating several chances that were thwarted by crucial defensive blocks from Dean Huijsen and notable saves from Lunin.

Just when the match appeared destined for a draw, Mbappe struck again in the 87th minute to seal the win. Eduardo Camavinga drove past a defender after combining with Jude Bellingham and delivered a precise pass to Mbappe, who netted his 100th goal for Real Madrid to secure all three points.

Speaking to DAZN after the final whistle, Barcelona midfielder Pedri expressed deep frustration with his team's performance, particularly during the opening period. Pedri admitted that they fell short of their usual standards and paid the price for a sluggish start.

"In the first half we weren't ourselves, we were far from the class we usually show," Pedri said. He noted that while things improved after the interval and they managed to equalize, their mistakes proved costly against a side like Real Madrid. Nevertheless, the midfielder emphasized that the long title race is far from decided by a single defeat.

The victory provides a massive boost for Real Madrid, who sit in third place after nine matches. Meanwhile, Barcelona's spotless domestic record comes to an end following their recent midweek defeat in Europe, leaving both Spanish giants to refocus as the season progresses.
