Recent Celebrity Weddings Spark Debates and Reveal Behind-the-Scenes Stories
From discussions on wedding etiquette and cash gifts to surprise ceremonies and tragic television memories, weddings have recently captured public attention.
Celebrity weddings and wedding-related discussions have recently drawn widespread attention, highlighting various social perspectives, personal milestones, and poignant behind-the-scenes stories. Comedians Kim Ji-sun and Kim Hyo-jin recently addressed the ongoing debate regarding appropriate cash wedding gifts, particularly for hotel ceremonies. Speaking on their YouTube channel, they emphasized that guests should consider the rising costs of wedding venues and meal prices when deciding how much to give.
Kim Hyo-jin stated, "We need to think about the cost of the meal at a hotel wedding. Depending on where the ceremony is held, you should match that level to show proper etiquette." Kim Ji-sun agreed, adding that she gives generously for hotel weddings unless she does not eat the meal. However, Kim Hyo-jin also criticized guests who bring their entire families to upscale hotel weddings while only contributing a minimal amount of money.
In another major development, composer and singer EJAE, known for her work on the Netflix animated film "K-Pop: Demon Hunters," recently tied the knot with producer Sam Kim in a surprise wedding in South Korea. The couple held their ceremony on October 17 at Stage 28 in Seoul, a venue built on the former estate of EJAE's maternal grandfather, actor Shin Young-kyun. The wedding was officially confirmed when Vogue published their wedding photographs.
The ceremony brought together the "Huntrix" members from the Netflix project, with Audrey Nuna and Ray Amie traveling to South Korea to celebrate. Ray Amie shared her joy on social media, writing, "Congratulations from the bottom of my heart to our dearest, most beautiful, kindest, most loving, talented, and magical unnie EJAE and Sam Kim on your wedding. It was a wonderful night full of love, music, and celebration." The couple initially planned to marry in the United States in November but moved the ceremony up by a month and relocated it to South Korea.
Meanwhile, wedding themes also recalled more somber historical reflections in entertainment. Mia Perry Bowick, the sister of the late Matthew Perry, recently opened up in an interview with People about the emotional reality behind the iconic wedding episode of Chandler and Monica in the sitcom "Friends." She noted that while her brother deeply desired a real-life family and partner, his severe substance addiction made the family anxious about whether he would ever experience a real wedding himself.
Matthew Perry previously revealed in his memoir that immediately after filming the wedding episode of season seven, he had to return to a treatment center driven by a sober companion. Despite dating several well-known stars throughout his life, he passed away in 2023 at the age of 54 due to acute ketamine effects without realizing his dream of starting a family.
In the political sphere, wedding events also intersected with public controversies in South Korea. Opposition parties raised questions regarding public appointments linked to figures connected to presidential aide Kim Hyun-ji, including the appointment of Ha Dong-geun, who served as the wedding officiant for Kim, as the president of the Korea District Heating Corp despite receiving low evaluation scores during the recruitment process. The ruling and opposition parties continue to clash over whether to summon key officials to upcoming parliamentary audits.
