The Seattle Seahawks delivered a statement performance on Sunday Night Football, defeating the previously unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs 20-3 at Lumen Field. With a dominant defensive display and efficient offensive execution, the Seahawks improved their record to 4-3 while handing Kansas City its first loss of the season.

Seattle's defense stymied a high-powered Kansas City offense, limiting the visitors to a meager 213 yards of total offense. Patrick Mahomes completed 19 of 33 passes for 165 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. The Chiefs failed to reach double figures for only the third time in Mahomes' career, matching the lowest score in any game he has started.

A pivotal turning point in the first half came during the second quarter when safety Nick Emmanwori applied heavy pressure on Mahomes, forcing the quarterback into a hurried throw toward the sideline. Safety Ty Okada intercepted the pass, setting up a Seattle scoring drive that broke the game open.

Capitalizing on the turnover, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold engineered an 86-yard drive capped by a 28-yard touchdown pass down the left sideline to Jaxon Smith-Njigba with 1:44 remaining before halftime. Darnold finished the night completing 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while Smith-Njigba hauled in nine receptions for 150 yards and a score.

The Seahawks also neutralized running back Kenneth Walker III, who signed with Kansas City in the offseason after earning Super Bowl MVP honors with Seattle last year. Walker was restricted to just 36 yards on 14 carries as the Seahawks' defense routinely shut down running lanes. Meanwhile, Emanuel Wilson paced Seattle's ground attack with 24 carries for 100 yards, sealing the victory with a 21-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shouldered the blame for the lopsided defeat after his team struggled across all phases. "All three phases, we struggled," Reid said. "So, we’ve got to do better and that’s my responsibility. I take full responsibility for this."

Mahomes echoed similar sentiments regarding the offense's lack of execution, particularly noting the difficulties in converting opportunities around midfield and failing to establish the run game. "You got your tail kicked," Mahomes said. "Didn’t execute offensively, especially around that midfield area. Kept us away from a lot of points, or at least enough points to be competitive."

Despite the loss, the Chiefs maintain a half-game lead in the AFC West standings. Kansas City will look to rebound next Sunday on the road against the Denver Broncos, while the Seahawks continue their campaign looking to build upon their impressive primetime victory.
