Sochaux Suffers 3-1 Defeat to Annecy in Ligue 2 Match
Head coach Vincent Hognon took responsibility for a dismal first half as Sochaux fell at home.
FC Sochaux suffered a difficult 3-1 defeat against Annecy in a Ligue 2 match on Friday evening, capped by a difficult first half and multiple injuries.
The home team struggled from the opening whistle, conceding early control to a high-intensity Annecy side. Sochaux head coach Vincent Hognon shouldered the blame for the performance during the opening forty-five minutes.
"The first fifteen minutes were extremely complicated, I think it was the worst first half since I have been here and I take it on myself, that is what I told the players," Hognon stated after the match. He added that goalkeeper Mehdi Jeannin prevented an even heavier deficit.
The evening grew worse for Sochaux with physical setbacks during the first half. Kapit Djoco was forced off with a muscular issue, while teammate Arthur Vitelli exited on a stretcher following an aerial duel, undergoing a concussion protocol.
Hognon noted that despite the rough start, his team created opportunities and showed improvement in the second half. "We let go a little more at 2-0 down, we took risks, we opened up. The second period was more in line with what I expected from a team that battles," the coach explained, while also praising Annecy for their remarkable pressing and intensity.
Annecy manager Laurent Guyot opened his post-match remarks by sending well wishes to the injured Sochaux player. "I want to wish a good recovery to Arthur Vitelli before talking about the match. The most important subject of the evening is the health of the player," Guyot said.
Analyzing his team's performance, Guyot highlighted their execution during transitions and their ability to quell a potential comeback after Sochaux narrowed the scoreline. With the victory, Annecy continues its campaign focused primarily on securing league survival as quickly as possible.
Hognon concluded that consecutive losses against strong opponents like Metz and Annecy serve as a clear wakeup call for his squad, emphasizing that they must remain fully focused moving forward.
