The San Antonio Spurs extended their winning streak to five games on Monday night by defeating the Utah Jazz 119-97 at the Frost Bank Center. San Antonio put together a balanced offensive performance with seven players scoring in double figures, controlling the game from the opening minutes and never trailing after the first minute of play.

Dylan Harper led the charge for the Spurs with 17 points, while Stephon Castle contributed 16 points and Keldon Johnson added 15. Star center Victor Wembanyama recorded 12 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks, anchoring a San Antonio defense that held an opponent under 100 points for the first time this season.

The Spurs shot an impressive 60 percent from the field as a team. The game broke open decisively in the third quarter, where San Antonio outscored Utah 35-20. Wembanyama, Harper, Castle, and De'Aaron Fox each contributed six points in the frame, allowing the hosts to stretch their advantage to 25 points.

De'Aaron Fox finished the contest with 12 points, and Devin Vassell chipped in 11, bringing the combined total for the San Antonio starters to 68 points. The Spurs capitalized heavily in transition and in the paint, outscoring the Jazz 26-9 on fastbreak points and 52-36 inside.

For the Jazz, who suffered their fifth consecutive loss, Lauri Markkanen put up 22 points and eight rebounds. Rookie Darryn Peterson added 14 points following an 18-2 run by San Antonio in the first quarter that was sparked after Peterson was assessed a Flagrant Foul 1 for a closeout on a Vassell three-pointer.

Utah struggled significantly on offense during the opening period, managing just 16 points on 7-for-26 shooting, which marked a season-low for the team. Although the Jazz narrowed the deficit to a single point at 37-36 in the second quarter by hitting five three-pointers, they were unable to reclaim the lead for the remainder of the evening.

The struggling Jazz played without several key contributors, including Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jusuf Nurkic, leaving the team shorthanded against San Antonio's frontcourt size. Utah dropped to a 1-6 record on the season following the defeat.

Looking ahead to their next matchups on Wednesday night, the Utah Jazz will travel to face the New Orleans Orleans, while the San Antonio Spurs will remain at home to host the Dallas Mavericks.
