Tennessee Defeats Alabama 26-10 as Pressure Mounts on Crimson Tide

The Volunteers secured a road victory over the Crimson Tide behind strong second-half play, intensifying scrutiny on Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer.

The Tennessee Volunteers secured a 26-10 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide during Week 7 action, leaving the Crimson Tide searching for answers following back-to-back SEC losses. Tennessee sophomore quarterback George MacIntyre completed 21 of 31 passes for 197 yards, throwing an interception and zero touchdowns while leading two crucial second-half touchdown drives to extend the lead.

MacIntyre started his third consecutive game in place of true freshman Faizon Brandon, who suffered a right shoulder injury against Texas. Despite Brandon's ongoing recovery, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel opted to stick with MacIntyre under center against Alabama, a decision that paid off as the Volunteers defense held the Crimson Tide to 201 total yards of offense.

On the other side, the defeat amplified pressure on Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer after consecutive conference losses. During an interview on WBRC, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum stated that DeBoer faces a "dangerous and scary place" with the fan base, noting that his future could be in jeopardy if Alabama loses the annual Iron Bowl rivalry game to Auburn at the close of the regular season.

"One thing I do know… if Kalen DeBoer loses the Iron Bowl, all bets are off," Finebaum explained during the October 19 interview. Despite the recent struggles, computer models from The Athletic still give Alabama a 56 percent chance to reach the College Football Playoff, though their chances of winning the SEC sit at eight percent.

Alabama's defensive unit struggled significantly during the matchup, recording a season-high 26 missed tackles. Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack's squad failed to consistently make one-on-one open-field plays, particularly against Tennessee's quick passing game and perimeter screens.

"It's not like an effort, not like a scheme thing, it's just execute," linebacker Caleb Woodson said regarding the defensive miscues. Safety Ivan Taylor echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the unit must eliminate these errors immediately as they prepare to face a challenging Texas A&M offense.

The historic rivalry game also featured a notable visual callback, with both teams wearing their traditional home jerseys for the first time since 1970. In addition, observers noted aesthetic changes following Tennessee's summer switch from Nike to Adidas, with ESPN analyst Stanford Steve pointing out that the orange on the new Adidas uniforms appears slightly darker than the previous Nike design.
