Uetze Sees Connectivity and Transit Upgrades Amid Ongoing Police Inquiries

New 5G infrastructure and revised bus schedules roll out in the German municipality as local authorities pursue separate criminal cases.

Telecommunications infrastructure and public transit services across the municipality of Uetze in northern Germany received notable upgrades this week, even as regional law enforcement continues to investigate separate criminal investigations in the area. Vodafone announced the activation of a new mobile cell station in Uetze and neighboring Gehrden, closing cellular dead zones and connecting approximately 3,000 residents and visitors to high-speed broadband. Concurrently, regional transit operator ÜSTRA implemented updated bus schedules tailored to local schools following the autumn break.

The newly commissioned cell station delivers modern 5G connectivity to Uetze, representing a major milestone in an ongoing telecommunications expansion throughout the Hanover district. The site incorporates updated public safety standards, including Advanced Mobile Location technology, which automatically transmits precise caller coordinates to emergency response dispatchers when dialing emergency services. The station is also equipped with the Cell Broadcast disaster alert system, enabling authorities to distribute real-time warnings directly to mobile phones during crises such as major fires, industrial gas leaks, or severe flooding.

The installation in Uetze is part of a broader infrastructure push across the district of Hanover, where Vodafone currently operates 327 mobile base stations. According to the company, 323 of those locations already supply LTE service and 261 feature 5G technology, covering roughly 99 percent of populated areas. The company outlined plans to complete 83 additional network projects across the district by the end of March 2027, which includes constructing 11 new base stations across Uetze, Burgdorf, and Hanover over the next six months alongside equipment upgrades at dozens of existing locations.

Local transit accessibility in Uetze also experienced adjustments coordinated by regional carrier ÜSTRA starting Monday, October 26. Designed to improve school travel after the autumn holiday, the updated bus timetable restored a dedicated return route on Bus Line 938 for students attending the elementary school in the village of Hänigsen. The designated bus departs the Hänigsen school stop at 1:44 p.m. on school days, providing young passengers with direct transport toward central Uetze.

The schedule revisions in Uetze coincide with coordinated adjustments on school-oriented bus routes in several surrounding municipalities, including Hemmingen, Langenhagen, Neustadt, and Wedemark. Local adjustments included shifting departure times on busy routes by a few minutes, adding supplemental relief buses during peak afternoon hours, and rerouting specific connections so students can complete their daily commutes without requiring bus transfers.

While local infrastructure saw advancements, police in the district remain active regarding recent incidents in the Uetze area. Detectives from the Central Criminal Service in Hanover are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at a convenience store along Bahnhofstraße in the Dollbergen district of Uetze on the evening of October 15. Two unidentified men entered the shop around 9:00 p.m., threatened a 40-year-old female employee with a firearm, and seized cash from the register and cigarette packs before fleeing northward toward Im Dubenthal. The worker was uninjured, and a neighborhood search by patrol vehicles did not locate the suspects.

Simultaneously, regional police and prosecutors are conducting a public search for 44-year-old Sebastian Daniel S., who is accused of attempted murder in Uetze dating back to mid-September. Investigators reported that the suspect allegedly attacked his former partner's 30-year-old boyfriend with a knife inside her residence. Although the victim and the woman disarmed and restrained the man until officers arrived, police initially released him before discovering evidence in subsequent days indicating an explicit intent to kill. By the time an arrest warrant was prepared, the suspect had fled, prompting authorities to urge the public to notify emergency services rather than approach him directly.
