A United Airlines flight traveling from Grand Cayman to Houston declared an emergency upon landing on Sunday night due to a mechanical issue, according to airline and aviation officials. United Flight 1854 departed from Owen Roberts International Airport at 4:28 p.m. and arrived safely at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Data from FlightAware indicates that the aircraft touched down at 8:12 p.m. and taxied to the gate, arriving at 8:24 p.m., which was 27 minutes past its scheduled arrival time. The flight was operated with a Boeing 737 carrying 83 passengers and six crew members.

According to preliminary information released by the Federal Aviation Administration, the flight crew reported a potential landing gear issue alongside low fuel levels. Air traffic control reportedly suggested utilizing Runway 9 in the event that the airstrip required closure following the aircraft's touchdown.

Initial flight-tracking reports noted that the crew had warned that the right main landing gear might fail to deploy properly. This prompted the aircraft to circle northwest of the airfield before making its final approach.

United Airlines confirmed the incident through an official statement. "United flight 1854 from Grand Cayman to Houston declared an emergency upon landing due to a mechanical indication," the airline stated. Officials added that the plane landed safely, taxied normally, and passengers were able to deplane at the gate without further incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration stated that it is continuing to investigate the exact cause of the mechanical indication and the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew members aboard the aircraft.
