Uttar Pradesh Announces Massive Recruitment Drive for Over 20,000 Educators

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has officially released notifications for a major recruitment drive aimed at filling 20,382 vacant positions across aided secondary schools in the state. The large-scale hiring initiative includes 17,735 Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) posts, 1,172 high school headmaster positions, and 1,475 intermediate college principal vacancies, addressing long-standing staffing shortages in regional educational institutions.

Online registration for the TGT positions is scheduled to begin on October 24, 2026, with the application window closing on November 23, 2026. Meanwhile, the application process for the headmaster and principal roles commenced on October 23, 2026, and will accept submissions through November 22, 2026. Candidates are permitted to make corrections to their submitted application forms until November 26, 2026, if needed.

To streamline the application process and ensure transparency, the commission has mandated a One-Time Registration (OTR) system on its official portal, upessc.up.gov.in. Applicants must complete this preliminary registration to obtain an OTR number before proceeding with any individual post application. Officials have emphasized that prospective candidates must carefully review the detailed guidelines and subject-wise vacancy distributions provided in the official advertisements prior to submission.

The selection process for the TGT vacancies relies primarily on a written examination slated for December 23 and 24, 2026. The test will comprise 120 multiple-choice questions totaling 360 marks, structured into 30 general knowledge questions and 90 subject-specific questions. The examination incorporates a negative marking scheme, deducting one mark for each incorrect answer while awarding three marks for correct responses. Successful candidates will be placed in pay matrix level seven, offering a monthly salary scale ranging from 44,900 to 1,42,400 rupees.

Eligibility requirements for the TGT posts mandate that candidates hold a relevant bachelor's degree featuring the required subject combinations along with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree from a recognized program. Additionally, applicants must have cleared the applicable Teacher Eligibility Test for classes six through eight. Age limits require candidates to be at least 21 years old as of July 1, 2026, with an upper age limit established at 62 years.

Application fees vary by applicant category for the TGT positions. General, Other Backward Classes, and Economically Weaker Section candidates are required to pay an application fee of 1,000 rupees. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes applicants will pay a reduced fee of 500 rupees, whereas candidates with disabilities are assessed a fee of 300 rupees. Fees are payable online using credit cards, debit cards, or net banking.

Examinations for the high school headmaster and intermediate college principal roles are scheduled to follow shortly after the TGT tests, with both administrative leadership exams set for January 7, 2027. Education authorities have encouraged applicants to complete their registrations well ahead of the final deadlines to bypass potential server congestion and technical hurdles.
