Armani Olimpia Milano Defeats Cantù in LBA Serie A Derby
Olimpia Milano broke a four-game losing streak across all competitions by defeating Pallacanestro Cantù 95-82 at PalaDesio during the sixth round of the LBA Serie A championship.
Armani Olimpia Milano secured a 95-82 victory against Pallacanestro Cantù on Monday night at PalaDesio in the sixth round of the LBA Serie A championship. The win halted a four-game losing skid for Milano across both domestic play and the EuroLeague, bringing their record to 4-2 in the standings.
Cantù started the match with high intensity, building an early 10-3 lead driven by Hassani Gravett. However, Milano responded through RJ Cole and Josh Nebo to level the score. Cantù managed to push their advantage to eight points in the second quarter, but Milano bounced back with three-pointers from team captain Pippo Ricci to take a 51-47 lead by halftime.
The second half continued with intense competition before Milano managed to pull away. A late third-quarter three-pointer from Leandro Bolmaro put the visitors ahead 72-64. In the final period, Marko Guduric and Devon Hall extended the margin into double digits, sealing the final score at 95-82.
Leandro Bolmaro led Milano with 14 points, alongside 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals, earning the game's highest efficiency rating. RJ Cole also contributed 14 points, while Marko Guduric added 12 points in 14 minutes of play. For Cantù, Savion Flagg led the scoring with 17 points, and Davide Moretti chipped in 16.
The derby took place amidst roster challenges for both sides. Cantù played without Semaj Christon following his provisional suspension after a positive anti-doping test from an earlier match against Napoli. Meanwhile, Milano coach Peppe Poeta addressed ongoing injury concerns, noting that Booker's injury is quite serious.
Reflecting on the match, Cantù head coach Francesco Vitucci stated, "A team like that required forty truly perfect minutes from us." Meanwhile, player Hassani Gravett noted that the game slipped away in the final moments due to defensive lapses.
Following this result, Pallacanestro Cantù remains winless with zero points after six games, suffering its sixth consecutive defeat in the league. Olimpia Milano will look to build on this momentum as they prepare to face Valencia in the EuroLeague.
