Bayer Leverkusen secured a 2-0 victory away against OFI Crete in their European fixture, continuing a strong run that leaves them with multiple wins in the league phase and only one defeat in their last 17 Europa League matches. Led on the field by captain Patrik Schick, the German club managed to navigate a challenging trip to Crete despite an inspired defensive performance from the home side's goalkeeper.

The match began with early pressure from the hosts when Thiago Nuss cut inside onto his left foot and fired a shot, which visiting goalkeeper Janis Blaswich managed to stretch and palm away to safety. After weathering the initial minutes, Leverkusen started to find their rhythm as OFI goalkeeper Klidman Lilo was called into action to deny several attempts.

Lilo produced a series of impressive stops, including denying Schick and turning away a close-range effort from Malik Tillman with a sharp reflex save. However, the heavy pressure eventually broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Lilo parried a long-range strike from Afonso Moreira directly into the path of Hofmann, who slotted the rebound neatly inside the near post.

Leverkusen quickly doubled their advantage just two minutes later. Hofmann struck again from outside the penalty area, sending a precise volley into the bottom left corner to cap off a dominant first half for the visitors.

Despite trailing by two goals, Lilo maintained a heroic performance throughout the second half. He denied Hofmann a potential hat-trick and blocked a powerful drive from Aleix Garcia, while also stopping a late effort from Miguel Gutierrez to prevent a heavier defeat for the Greek club.

At the other end, Blaswich handled several attempts from OFI, including a close effort from Taxiarchis Fountas that sailed narrowly past the post. Christos Kontis' side ultimately fell short in their quest for points, though they have now completed three fixtures against opponents from Europe's top five leagues.

Heading into the fixture, OFI Crete head coach Christos Kontis made six changes following a domestic defeat to Kalamata, bringing in Lilo, Achilleas Poungouras, Lorenzo Dickmann, Andreas Bouchalakis, Athanasios Androutsos, and Aitor Cantalapiedra. Meanwhile, Leverkusen manager Carles Martinez made five adjustments from a weekend win over Freiburg, inserting Blaswich, Lucas Vazquez, Loic Badé, Tillman, and Hofmann into the starting lineup.
