Hoffenheim Defeats Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in Bundesliga Match
Andrej Kramaric scored his 1,000th Bundesliga goal for Hoffenheim as Bayer Leverkusen missed a crucial opportunity at the top of the table.
TSG Hoffenheim secured a decisive 3-0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday at the SNP Arena, halting their opponents' momentum and claiming their fourth win of the Bundesliga season. The match remained tightly contested through a scoreless first half before unfolding into a dramatic second half marked by late goals, a penalty, and a lengthy injury stoppage.
The breakthrough arrived in the 79th minute following a VAR review, when referee Robert Hartmann awarded a penalty after Edmond Tapsoba brought down Fisnik Asllani inside the box. Veteran forward Andrej Kramaric stepped up and calmly converted from twelve yards out, sending the ball down the middle past goalkeeper Mark Flekken. The milestone strike marked Hoffenheim's 1,000th goal in the Bundesliga and extended Kramaric's impressive streak from the penalty spot.
Hoffenheim added two more goals in the closing minutes of the game to seal the emphatic win. Alexander Prass scored in the 89th minute after combining with Kramaric, drilling a high strike from eighteen yards out. However, Prass received a second yellow card moments later and was sent off for removing his shirt during his goal celebration. Despite being reduced to ten men, the hosts added a third in stoppage time when Max Moerstedt poked home a rebound after Kramaric's initial shot hit the crossbar.
The match was heavily overshadowed by a frightening collision in the second half involving Moerstedt and Leverkusen defender Loïc Badé. The two players clashed heads near the center circle, leaving both lying on the turf for several minutes. According to Leverkusen manager Carles Martínez speaking to DAZN, Badé was knocked completely unconscious for about a minute and a half and could not be reached initially. "The most important thing now, of course, is that he is doing well," Martínez stated. "He is talking to us. He is in the shower right now. If everything goes normally, he will come back with us and continue as before."
Both teams entered the fixture following successful outings in the UEFA Europa League earlier in the week, prompting both managers to heavily rotate their squads. Hoffenheim had earned a 3-0 home victory against Olympique Lyon, while Leverkusen secured a 2-0 win away at OFI Kreta. Leverkusen's offense, which had consistently scored at least two goals in each of their previous ten competitive matches under Martínez, struggled to find any rhythm and failed to score for the first time this Bundesliga season.
The defeat leaves Leverkusen missing an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the standings, while Christian Ilzer's Hoffenheim side climbs to 10th place in the league table. Hoffenheim will next prepare for a DFB-Pokal clash against Holstein Kiel on Wednesday.
