Benfica solidified its position at the top of the UEFA Europa League standings on Thursday with a 3-1 victory over Lech Poznan at the Estádio da Luz. The result keeps the Portuguese club undefeated in the competition, boasting 12 points from four matches and maintaining the tournament's most prolific attack.

Manager Marco Silva opted for a significant rotation of his starting lineup, introducing several fresh players such as Trubin, Rafa Silva, and Jhon Durán. Despite the changes, the team established control early. Rafa Silva opened the scoring in the sixth minute, capitalizing on a loose ball after a cross from Schjelderup was initially mishandled by Lech Poznan goalkeeper Mateusz Lis.

The match remained relatively controlled for the hosts, though they struggled to generate significant momentum during the middle stages of the game. Lech Poznan, struggling to find a rhythm, remained largely defensive. The second goal arrived in the 67th minute through Gianluca Prestianni, who had entered the match as a substitute. The young Argentine forward produced a standout individual effort, cutting inside from the left flank to strike a precise shot into the corner of the net.

The visitors managed to narrow the deficit shortly after, following a defensive error by Benfica's Barrenechea, which allowed Bengtsson to score. The goal served as a reminder of recent defensive lapses for Benfica, who have now conceded in five of their last six matches. Lech Poznan manager Niels Frederiksen expressed disappointment after the match, noting that conceding early dictated the flow of the game and forced his team to take risks that ultimately left them vulnerable to counterattacks.

Frederiksen acknowledged that while his team reacted well during the latter stages, the tactical structure of the Benfica side remained consistent despite the personnel changes. "We knew they rotated a lot, but tactically it was not surprising, because they do not change much in the way they play," the coach stated following the defeat.

The final score was settled in stoppage time when Barrenechea redeemed his earlier error by setting up Sudakov. The Ukrainian midfielder finished the play with a composed strike to secure the 3-1 win. With this result, Benfica maintains its lead in the Europa League standings, while Lech Poznan continues to search for its first victory in this phase of the competition.
