Sunderland played to a 1-1 draw against Polish side Lech Poznań on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League. Clad in a new all-pink kit, the Black Cats struck early when Timur Tutierov found the back of the net in the second minute of the match. Despite dominating much of the encounter and creating numerous scoring opportunities, Regis Le Bris's side was unable to close out the victory.

Lech Poznań fought back as the game progressed, eventually leveling the score thanks to Leo Bengtsson, whose right-footed shot from the center of the box found the bottom left corner following a corner kick. The goal ensured that the Polish team shared the spoils on home turf, earning their first point of the league phase after three matches.

Following Thursday's results, Sunderland sits in ninth place in the 36-team UEFA Europa League league phase standings with seven points, having recorded two wins and one draw from their opening three fixtures. Meanwhile, Lech Poznań occupies a lower tier in the standings, holding one point after registering one draw and two losses.

The competition's top eight teams will progress directly to the knockout phase, while squads finishing between 9th and 24th place will advance into the play-offs. Sunderland's position in the top half keeps them in contention for advancement as they look ahead to their remaining fixtures in the tournament.

Domestically, Sunderland has faced challenges in the Premier League, sitting at the bottom of the table with only one victory from their first seven contests. Head coach Regis Le Bris has had to manage squad depth amid injuries to key players like striker Brian Brobbey and centre-back Dan Ballard, putting additional pressure on the team's continental campaign.

Elsewhere in the Europa League, teams like Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen, Bournemouth, Ferencváros, and Olympiakos maintained perfect starts with three consecutive victories, occupying the upper echelons of the league phase table. As the tournament progresses through November, clubs will continue battling for crucial points to secure their spots in the next round.
