Besiktas Defeats Basaksehir 2-0 in Super Lig Match
Second-half goals from Hyeon-gyu Oh and Junior Olaitan lifted Besiktas to victory at Tupras Stadium on Monday evening.
Besiktas secured a 2-0 victory against Basaksehir on Monday evening at Tupras Stadium during the ninth week of the Trendyol Super Lig. Following a scoreless first half in Istanbul, the home side broke the deadlock in the second half through goals from substitutes and key attacking plays, keeping pace at the top of the league standings.
The match, officiated by referee Umit Ozturk, remained tightly contested throughout the opening forty-five minutes. Both teams created opportunities, with Besiktas coming close when Dusan Vlahovic hit the crossbar following a cross from Wilfred Ndidi in the 17th minute. Basaksehir also tested Besiktas goalkeeper Alexander Nubel, but the teams entered halftime level at 0-0.
Besiktas manager Vincenzo Italiano made a crucial tactical change in the 65th minute by introducing Hyeon-gyu Oh in place of Wilfred Ndidi. The substitution paid off quickly when the South Korean forward broke through the defense in the 76th minute. Oh collected a header from Vlahovic, raced past the Basaksehir defense, rounded goalkeeper Muhammed Sengezer, and slotted the ball into the empty net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Basaksehir attempted to respond, with Eldor Shomurodov testing Nubel with a powerful long-range strike in the 63rd minute, but the German goalkeeper tipped it over the crossbar. Despite their efforts, the visiting side struggled to convert their possession into clear scoring opportunities during the second period.
In the final moments of regulation, Besiktas sealed the win. Following a defensive clearance by Basaksehir, Junior Olaitan gained control of the ball near the edge of the penalty area in the 89th minute. Olaitan unleashed a precise shot into the far corner, extending the lead to 2-0 and confirming the three points for the black-and-whites.
With this victory, Besiktas raised its points total to 18 after nine matches, moving into third place in the Super Lig standings. Meanwhile, Basaksehir remained on 11 points, concluding the week in 12th place following the loss.
Looking ahead to the upcoming schedule, Besiktas will travel to face Kasimpasa on Sunday, November 1, before heading to Scotland to take on Celtic in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, November 5. Basaksehir will host Samsunspor in their next domestic fixture.
