Besiktas faced Istanbul Basaksehir at Tupras Stadium in a Turkish Super Lig Week 9 matchup. The game kicked off at 7:00 PM local time on Monday, October 26, 2026, with Ümit Öztürk officiating the match as the referee. Television coverage for the encounter was broadcast live on beIN Sports 2 for subscribers across the region.

Heading into the fixture, Besiktas held 15 points after recording five wins and three losses in their first eight league matches under the direction of manager Vincenzo Italiano. The black-and-whites entered the pitch aiming to secure their sixth victory of the domestic campaign with the backing of their home supporters.

Italiano made significant alterations to his team selection, implementing eight changes from the starting eleven that drew 2-2 against Crystal Palace in the UEFA Avrupa Ligi earlier in the week. The Italian coach overhauled his entire defensive line, replacing Taylan Bulut, Ümit Akdağ, Tiago Djalo, and Kassoum Ouattara with Amir Murillo, Emmanuel Agbadou, Emirhan Topçu, and Rıdvan Yılmaz.

In the midfield, only Leandro Trossard and Wilfred Ndidi retained their places from the European outing. Italiano brought in Salih Özcan, Junior Olaitan, and Vaclav Cerny alongside Trossard and Ndidi, while Dusan Vlahovic started in the attack for the hosts.

Besiktas faced roster concerns prior to the opening whistle, as injuries sidelined players including team captain Orkun Kökçü, Fabio Miretti, and Ümit Akdağ. Furthermore, central defender Emirhan Topçu entered the game on a yellow card suspension warning, meaning a booking against Basaksehir would rule him out of the upcoming fixture against Kasimpasa.

Defensive consistency remained a focal point for the squad, as the team had conceded goals in each of their previous six official matches, giving up 11 goals while scoring 13 during that stretch. The coaching staff hoped the newly configured backline could put an end to that defensive trend against Basaksehir.

Following the conclusion of the league encounter, Besiktas will turn their attention back to international competition. The club is scheduled to travel to Scotland to face Celtic on Thursday, November 5, 2026, in their next UEFA Europa League fixture.
