Dussehra celebrations across various regions brought notable controversies, health announcements, and heated political disputes this week. While the holiday traditionally marks the triumph of good over evil, public figures found themselves making headlines for verbal blunders, unexpected health breaks, and serious financial allegations.

In the entertainment sector, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor faced heavy criticism on social media after a slip of the tongue during a promotional event for his upcoming film 'Ramayana: Part One'. While discussing the holiday, Kapoor mistakenly stated that evil would ultimately bring an end to truth and goodness, rather than stating that truth and goodness would ultimately win. The clip quickly went viral, drawing sharp backlash from online users who questioned how the lead actor playing Lord Rama could make such an error.

Addressing the backlash, Kapoor issued a public apology during a subsequent promotional event in Chennai. He explained that he misspoke and intended to emphasize the ultimate victory of truth and righteousness. Quoting a line from his movie 'Rockstar', he expressed regret for his phrasing. In 'Ramayana: Part One', directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Kapoor stars as Lord Rama alongside Sai Pallavi as Sita, with the film scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026.

Meanwhile, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan also made news by extending Dussehra greetings while announcing a temporary break from social media. Bachchan informed his followers that he has been advised to take strict rest and recuperation, limiting his ability to communicate online. The health update followed a recent police investigation into a shooting incident involving actor Tiger Shroff's car, where authorities discovered that suspects had reportedly surveyed residences belonging to Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, and Aamir Khan before abandoning the plan due to heightened security.

In the political arena, Dussehra rallies served as a platform for intense clashes in Maharashtra. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde strongly denied allegations made by Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil. During a Dussehra rally in Beed, Jarange-Patil alleged that he heard Shinde told BJP leadership to pay him 500 crore rupees to silence him. Shinde dismissed the claims as baseless during a press conference in New Delhi, challenging the activist to present verified evidence to the authorities.

The dispute escalated as Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam criticized Jarange-Patil during a party rally in Mumbai, alleging that the activist's fasts demanding OBC status for Marathas were fraudulent and calling for an official inquiry. In response, Jarange-Patil defended his actions and stated he would present proof at a press conference. Concurrently, opposition leaders such as Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut called for financial investigations into the matter by law enforcement agencies.

Away from public controversies, the holiday also prompted reflections on personal finance, with financial advisors highlighting common habits that undermine monetary security. Experts noted that practices such as paying only the minimum balance on credit cards, chasing quick investment returns, ignoring emergency savings, and letting unused subscriptions run continuously can strain personal wealth, drawing parallels between defeating financial demons and the symbolic victory celebrated during Dussehra.
