Borussia Dortmund secured a 2-1 victory over Spanish club Real Betis in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening. Playing before 81,365 spectators in a sold-out stadium, the German side moved closer to the top eight spots in the league phase standings.

With four matchdays completed, Dortmund holds nine points and sits within reach of direct qualification for the round of 16. The match also marked the end of Betis Sevilla's strong start, as the Spanish team had entered the fixture having won its first three matches of the European season.

The opening half remained scoreless, though both sides created early scoring opportunities. Dortmund started with strong offensive momentum, while Betis looked to capitalize on rapid counterattacks. During the first half, Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy was forced to leave the field due to hamstring issues and was replaced by Konstantinos Karetsas.

Dortmund broke the deadlock shortly after halftime in the 49th minute. Julian Ryerson delivered a sharp cross from the right flank, and although Jobe Bellingham's initial attempt was stopped by goalkeeper Alvaro Valles, Fábio Silva converted the rebound from close range to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Real Betis responded in the 67th minute when Aitor Ruibal equalized from close range following an assist by Abde. However, the parity lasted only briefly before Karetsas restored Dortmund's lead in the 72nd minute with a low, precise shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Following his performance and selection as player of the match, Karetsas reflected on his unexpected entry into the game during the first half. "I am feeling great," he said, while adding praise for his teammate: "Fábio Silva would have deserved the award as Man of the Match, he had a goal and an assist."

The evening also featured an emotional pre-match reunion for former Dortmund defender Marc Bartra. Bartra, who was the only player physically injured in the April 2017 attack on the team bus, returned to the stadium with Betis and was welcomed by supporters with a dedicated display on the stadium facade, though he ultimately did not participate in the match.
