Borussia Dortmund secured a slender 2-1 victory over Real Betis in the UEFA Champions League group stage on Wednesday night. Playing in front of 81,365 spectators at a sold-out stadium in Dortmund, the Bundesliga side capitalized on strong second-half performances to claim their third win of the continental campaign and move closer to direct qualification for the round of 16.

The hosts started the match with strong offensive momentum. Julian Ryerson created an early opportunity down the right flank, setting up Serhou Guirassy, who narrowly missed the target. Betis attempted to respond through quick counterattacks, and Antony briefly thought he had opened the scoring in the fourteenth minute, but his effort was correctly ruled out for offside.

Dortmund suffered a significant setback in the thirty-fourth minute when Guirassy was forced to leave the pitch due to a suspected injury. Head coach Niko Kovac brought on Kostas Karetsas as an early substitute. Karetsas later admitted that he was caught off guard by the sudden change, stating that he had just come from the restroom and received very few tactical instructions before stepping onto the field.

The deadlock broke four minutes into the second half. Ryerson delivered another dangerous cross into the penalty area, where Jobe Bellingham's initial shot was parried by Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Vallés. Fábio Silva reacted quickest to the rebound, thrashing the ball home from six yards out to give Dortmund a 1-0 lead.

Real Betis fought back in the sixty-seventh minute, capitalizing on a defensive error by German international Waldemar Anton. Anton surrendered possession, allowing Abdessamad Ezzalzouli to set up substitute Aitor Ruibal at the back post for a close-range finish that leveled the score at 1-1.

Parity lasted for only five minutes before Karetsas restored Dortmund's advantage. After receiving the ball near the edge of the box, the substitute maneuvered past a defender and fired a precise low drive past Vallés in the seventy-second minute. The goal marked the young player's first official strike in a Borussia Dortmund jersey.

Real Betis pressed hard for a late equalizer as former Barcelona star Isco began orchestrating play from the bench, creating nervous moments for the home defense during a flurry of late corners. However, Dortmund managed to hold on through stoppage time to secure the vital three points, putting both teams level on nine points in the league phase standings.
