Cold Air Sweep and Snow Expected Across Italy for Upcoming Weekend

A shift in weather patterns will bring cooler temperatures, thunderstorms, and snow to parts of the country.

A significant shift in weather conditions is approaching Italy, bringing cold air masses, thunderstorms, and snow to higher elevations just in time for the upcoming weekend. The transition will impact large portions of the country, introducing noticeably lower temperatures and active weather systems.

According to meteorological forecasts, the initial precipitation linked to the cold front is expected to arrive on Saturday. The worst of the unsettled weather will concentrate primarily across the central and southern regions, as well as the two major islands, before intensifying further on Sunday.

Mattia Gussoni, a meteorologist, explained that the atmospheric change stems from hemispheric shifts. Masses of cold air originating from the region between Finland and western Russia are beginning to move southward toward the Mediterranean basin.

While extreme cold is not anticipated, temperatures across a substantial part of the country are projected to drop a few degrees below the seasonal climatological average. The cooling trend will be further accentuated by brisk northern winds, particularly affecting Sunday's weather.

In addition to rain and strong winds, the weather pattern will bring snowfall to the central and southern Apennines. Forecasters estimate that snow levels could drop to elevations between 800 and 1,000 meters.

Meanwhile, other localities anticipate calmer conditions. In regions like Stella, clear skies and bright sunshine are forecasted, with temperatures reaching a high of 13 degrees Celsius and a low of 8 degrees Celsius, accompanied by moderate to brisk northwestern winds.
