Cristiane Gomes da Silva, the mother of the late girl Ana Clara, attended the final presidential debate in the front row of the Globo television studio on Friday night, October 23, 2026. Invited by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, she found herself face-to-face with candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, who previously defended the man accused of killing her daughter.

Ana Clara tragically died in 2021 after being struck by a rifle bullet during a police operation in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. At the time of the incident, Flávio Bolsonaro, representing the Liberal Party, served as the legal counsel for Corporal Bruno Dias Delaroli, a member of the 12th Military Police Battalion accused of firing the fatal shot.

The police officer was arrested at the scene following the child's death but was subsequently released in November 2021. He continues to await trial while answering to the legal process under precautionary measures, with no official trial date scheduled so far.

The emotional confrontation during the broadcast followed a question raised by the current president regarding the opposition candidate's previous defense of the suspect. Cristiane followed the proceedings from the studio alongside former lawmaker Marcelo Freixo and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin.

The encounter took place during a high-stakes debate broadcast live by Globo, serving as the final face-off ahead of the presidential runoff election scheduled for Sunday, October 25. The event featured intense exchanges between President Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro over agricultural policy, economic management, and social welfare.

During the discussions centered on the agricultural sector, Lula challenged his opponent regarding poverty and hunger in the country, contrasting government export figures with domestic social challenges. In response, Bolsonaro criticized current agricultural financing and bureaucratic hurdles while outlining his security and economic proposals.

The debate underscored deep political divisions just two days before voters head to the polls for the decisive second round of the presidential election.
