Fallon Sherrock Wins £501,000 Defeating Luke Littler on Netflix Event
The trailblazing darts star secured the massive payday at Manchester Central before being whitewashed by Adrian Lewis days later.
Trailblazing darts star Fallon Sherrock made history by defeating reigning world champion Luke Littler to claim a £501,000 prize at a special live event broadcast on Netflix. The competition, titled "Beat Luke Littler," took place at Manchester Central and was billed as an opportunity for amateurs to test their skills against the 19-year-old darts prodigy.
Sherrock, a 32-year-old player from Milton Keynes, entered as the 15th challenger after 14 previous opponents failed to overcome the champion. Needing to defeat Littler in a single leg of 501, Sherrock secured the victory with a 14-darter that included a maximum 180 score, bringing her young son onto the stage in an emotional celebration.
"It has been tough because obviously I do see the backlash and I do see all the negative comments," Sherrock told the Press Association regarding her participation. "At the end of the day, I fit the criteria for this. I've never had a tour card, and I wouldn't class myself as a pro really, because all I do is just play darts for the enjoyment of it... I'm just so happy to overcome all the hate and win."
The event's format featured up to 20 competitors attempting to beat Littler to the checkout, with a prize fund described by analysts as the second largest in darts history behind only the PDC World Championships. However, Sherrock's inclusion sparked debate among fans and critics over whether her background conflicted with the event's framing as an amateur showcase.
PDC chief Barry Hearn defended her participation, stating that she met the eligibility requirements because she does not hold a PDC Tour Card. "She's not a PDC Tour Card holder. She's entitled to enter. Why should she be denied?" Hearn said. "She's a well-known player and she's a very good player."
Because of the format, several other amateur competitors who qualified for the show did not get a chance to throw against Littler once Sherrock claimed the winning leg. Among them was Pwyll Edwards, a 34-year-old amateur player from Wales, who described the production as a surreal and unforgettable experience despite missing his turn at the oche.
Shortly after her high-profile victory on Netflix, Sherrock returned to action in Northampton for an exhibition match against two-time world champion Adrian Lewis, where she was defeated 4-0. Meanwhile, Luke Littler concluded his weekend of appearances with a victory over Ricky Evans.
