Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident in Wolfhagen Leaves Man Dead

A 54-year-old man from the Kassel district was killed in a hit-and-run accident late Sunday night or early Monday morning outside the town of Wolfhagen. Authorities reported that the victim was struck by an automobile on Schützeberger Straße, sustaining fatal injuries that caused him to die at the scene.

The incident came to light at approximately 1:15 a.m. when a passing female motorist noticed a motionless body lying on the roadway. The shocked driver immediately contacted emergency services and the police department to report the emergency.

Despite the swift arrival of paramedics and an emergency physician, first responders were unable to revive the man. Investigators noted that the victim was struck under circumstances that remain unclear, by a vehicle traveling from Nothfelden toward Wolfhagen.

Police launched an immediate manhunt across the area to locate the fleeing driver, but initial search operations yielded no results. Investigators from the North Hesse Police Headquarters, including specialized accident reconstruction experts, were deployed to examine the scene thoroughly.

Schützeberger Straße remained closed to traffic around the accident site until approximately 5:40 a.m. to allow law enforcement and experts to gather evidence and document the area. Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation suggest that the suspect vehicle may be a Volkswagen model bearing front-left structural damage.

The North Hesse Police have appealed to the public for assistance and are urging any witnesses who observed the collision or have information regarding the fleeing automobile to contact authorities immediately at 0561-9100. The specialized hit-and-run investigation unit in Kassel is leading the ongoing search to identify and locate the responsible party.
