The Calgary Flames secured a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night, extending their winning streak to four games and capping off a perfect homestand. Matvei Gridin led the charge for Calgary by scoring twice, while Mikael Backlund added another goal, and Joel Farabee and Martin Pospisil sealed the win with empty-netters.

Calgary seized control of the game midway through the first period with two goals scored less than two minutes apart. Gridin opened the scoring at 10:05 with a sharp-angle shot from the left wing that beat Toronto goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky on the short side. He added his second of the night just 25 seconds into the second period on a power play, sniping another top corner shot over Bobrovsky's shoulder.

The Toronto Maple Leafs attempted a comeback with goals from Easton Cowan and William Nylander, but their four-game win streak was ultimately halted. Despite the defeat, veteran goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky made 29 saves on 32 shots, keeping the visitors competitive under steady pressure before Calgary secured the win with late empty-net tallies.

The loss also brought injury concerns for Toronto. New winger Kirill Marchenko exited the game early in the second period with a lower-body injury after going into the boards awkwardly following a hit from Calgary defenseman Yegor Sharangovich. Marchenko, who joined the Maple Leafs in a blockbuster preseason trade, headed to the locker room roughly 45 minutes before the team officially ruled him out for the remainder of the contest.

Despite the disappointing outcome for Toronto, star center Auston Matthews picked up an assist on Nylander's goal to record his 800th career NHL point. In doing so, Matthews became the fastest player in franchise history to reach the prestigious milestone.

For the Flames, goaltender Devin Cooley turned away 26 shots to earn his fourth consecutive victory, boasting a .955 save percentage over his recent four-start stretch. Captain Mikael Backlund also returned to the lineup after missing two games due to an upper-body injury.

Following Monday's matchup, the Calgary Flames prepare to visit the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, while the Toronto Maple Leafs travel to face the Seattle Kraken.
