Gimnasia de La Plata Secures 2-0 Victory Against Sarmiento

Gimnasia de La Plata defeated Sarmiento 2-0 in the opening match of the 14th round of the Torneo Clausura at the Juan Carmelo Zerillo Stadium, commonly known as El Bosque. The home team capitalized on defensive errors to secure the three points and move closer to a playoff spot.

The breakthrough occurred before the fifteen-minute mark of the first half. Ignacio Fernández pressured Sarmiento goalkeeper Thyago Ayala, whose attempted clearance struck the midfielder and bounced directly into the net to give Gimnasia a 1-0 advantage.

Sarmiento attempted to respond and created several dangerous moments through transitions and attacks involving Jonathan Herrera and Junior Marabel. However, the visiting side lacked the precision needed to capitalize on its scoring opportunities during the opening half.

In the second half, Gimnasia sealed the victory with a second goal in the 74th minute. After Fernández orchestrated an offensive sequence, substitute Franco Torres received the ball at the edge of the penalty area and fired an unstoppable right-footed shot past Ayala.

With this result, Gimnasia climbed to the third position in Zone B, accumulating 25 points and drawing level with the group leaders while moving a step closer to the postseason. Meanwhile, Sarmiento remained in fifth place with 21 points, maintaining its mathematical chances of qualification despite the away defeat.

In other tournament action, Platense secured a dramatic 2-1 victory against Gimnasia de Mendoza on the road, with a stoppage-time goal by Bruno Sepúlveda that kept their playoff hopes alive in the closing stages of the competition.
