Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza suffered a tough 2-1 defeat against Platense at the Víctor Legrotaglie stadium during the 14th round of the 2026 Clausura Tournament. The home team initially took the lead through forward Agustín Módica, but failed to hold on to the advantage as the visitors orchestrated a late comeback in stoppage time.

The match started with high intensity as Platense pressed early on, forcing saves from Gimnasia goalkeeper César Rigamonti against shots by Gonzalo Lencina and Merlini. Despite the early pressure from the visitors, Gimnasia gradually gained confidence and found tactical spaces in the attacking third.

The opening goal arrived at the 9th minute of the first half following an individual run by Paredes, who delivered a low cross into the box. Platense goalkeeper Cozzani attempted to clear the ball, but Módica capitalized on the rebound to net his tenth goal of the tournament, cementing his status as the team's top scorer.

However, the match took a negative turn for the home side when Módica was forced to leave the field due to a knee injury at the 28th minute of the first half. Visibly upset, the striker was substituted and left the pitch in tears, dealing a significant blow to the team's offensive power.

In the second half, Platense pushed forward in search of an equalizer while Gimnasia tried to defend their narrow lead. The visiting pressure finally paid off at the 33rd minute when Gauto scored the tying goal following an assist by Mainero, changing the dynamics of the encounter.

When the match appeared to be heading toward a draw, Platense struck again in additional time. Sepúlveda scored with a header following a corner kick, sealing a 2-1 victory and breaking Gimnasia's undefeated home record under coach Darío Franco.

The defeat left Gimnasia in seventh place in the standings, missing an opportunity to secure their playoff spot comfortably with two rounds remaining in the regular phase. The squad will now need to regroup and address defensive vulnerabilities ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
