Guadalajara defeated Necaxa 1-0 on Tuesday at the Estadio Akron in a Liga MX Apertura 2026 matchup, courtesy of a decisive own goal in the second half. The result propelled Guadalajara upward in the league table, while extending Necaxa's difficult run under newly appointed manager Juan Reynoso.

The game's lone goal arrived in the 77th minute. Guadalajara forward Roberto Alvarado made a surging run down the right flank, shook off a defender, and fired toward the net. The ball took a deflection off Necaxa defender Agustín Oliveros and rolled past the goalkeeper into the back of the net.

With this victory, Guadalajara climbed to the second position in the tournament standings with 23 points, trailing league leaders América by just a single point. Meanwhile, the loss left Necaxa struggling near the bottom of the table in the penultimate spot with nine points, having suffered four defeats in five matches since Reynoso took charge.

Reynoso spoke about his team's performance in the post-match press conference, maintaining that his players are gradually grasping his tactical approach despite the unfavorable scorelines. "It is not easy to come here and play the match we played, knowing that we are among the bottom teams in the tournament. The players on the pitch show commitment and conviction. We played toe-to-toe," the manager stated through translated remarks.

The Peruvian coach acknowledged that his squad is currently enduring a difficult spell, noting that they matched their opponents in the first half and forced the rival goalkeeper into key saves after the break. Necaxa will attempt to turn their fortunes around in their next fixture when they host last-place Juárez.

For Guadalajara, managed by Gabriel Milito, the hard-fought win serves to solidify their standing near the top of the Apertura 2026 tournament. The team successfully defended its strong historical record at home against Necaxa, securing another crucial three points in front of their supporters at the Estadio Akron.
