Harry Kane was crowned the winner of the 2026 Men's Ballon d'Or on Monday during the 70th edition of the ceremony held at the London Palladium. The Bayern Munich striker and England captain claimed the top honor after a prolific season, becoming the first English recipient of the award since Michael Owen won it in 2001.

Kane's victory followed an exceptional campaign for both club and country during the 2025-26 season, during which he netted 73 goals across all competitions. His performance included 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern Munich, helping lead the German club to a Bundesliga title and capturing the Gerd Müller Trophy as the men's top striker.

Reflecting on his journey to the award during his acceptance speech, Kane spoke about his challenging path to professional success. Unlike players who experience early breakthroughs, his career involved multiple loan spells before establishing himself at the highest level.

My journey wasn't straightforward; I didn't go straight to the top, I had to experience a lot of loan moves and fight my way to get to where I am now, Kane said.

In the voting for the men's award, Kane finished ahead of Kylian Mbappé in second place and Lamine Yamal in third. The ceremony also recognized numerous other standout football figures, including Alexia Putellas, who secured her third Women's Ballon d'Or following a historic quadruple with Barcelona.

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood praised Kane's dedication and resilience, describing his ascent as a fairy tale and highlighting how his development was shaped by early lower-league experiences. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher also acknowledged Kane's achievements, though he noted that legendary figures like Bobby Charlton remain benchmarks for international greatness due to their success in major tournament finals.

Kane expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaching staffs, and family members for their support throughout his career. He emphasized that team success remains his primary motivation as he continues his career at the highest levels of European football.
