Law enforcement authorities in Switzerland have launched a homicide investigation after human remains were discovered in the Rhine along the border between Switzerland and Germany. Bags containing the body parts of a man were recovered from the river near the Swiss municipality of Stein, according to police in the Aargau region.

The grim discovery began on Sunday when three individuals noticed a suspicious bag in the water near the riverbank in Stein, which lies directly opposite the German town of Bad Säckingen. Upon pulling the bag ashore, they found a human leg inside and immediately alerted authorities.

Following the initial find, Swiss police divers deployed to search the waterway and subsequently recovered additional bags containing more human remains. Investigators stated that the victim's identity has not yet been conclusively established.

A spokesperson for the police informed the Swiss newspaper Blick that the deceased man has a connection to a nearby housing center for asylum-seekers, though it remains unclear whether he was a resident there. The Aargau criminal investigation department has issued an appeal for witnesses who may have observed any suspicious activity along the banks of the Rhine or in surrounding areas.

In unrelated regional developments, the Rhine-Neckar district continues to provide daily local updates through municipal news channels, keeping residents informed on regional safety and public advisories.

Meanwhile, further down the river system in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, business and retail sectors have seen structural shifts. Germany's competition authority, the Bundeskartellamt, recently approved Hornbach Baumarkt's acquisition of six DIY stores from the insolvent Hellweg group, ensuring alternative options remain available for consumers across those locations.
