India claimed a dramatic four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the second T20I at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, taking control of the five-match series. Chasing a target of 181, India secured the win with just two balls to spare thanks to a decisive partnership down the order.

New Zealand had posted 180 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs, recovering from an early collapse through a dominant 116-run stand between Glenn Phillips and Bevon Jacobs. Phillips hammered 70 runs off 43 balls, featuring four sixes, while Jacobs contributed 58 runs from 46 deliveries to lift the hosts after Arshdeep Singh and Prince Yadav had reduced them to 43 for 3 inside the powerplay.

India's reply began on a shaky note as Sanju Samson fell cheaply for 14, and debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 4. Wicketkeeper-batter Mitchell Santner inflicted heavy damage on the visiting lineup, claiming outstanding figures of 4 for 21, which included the key wicket of set batter Abhishek Sharma for 27.

With India struggling at 113 for 6 after 15 overs, Naman Dhir provided crucial momentum by scoring 31 runs off just 17 balls. However, it was the explosive partnership between Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy that ultimately shifted the match dynamics.

The pair combined for a rapid 50-run alliance in merely 23 deliveries, punishing New Zealand's bowling attack with aggressive strokeplay. Varma completed a brilliant half-century off 25 deliveries, finishing the contest alongside Reddy, who secured the winning runs on the penultimate delivery of the final over bowled by Jacob Duffy.

The match officials for the encounter included on-field umpires Kim Cotton and Shaun Haig, TV umpire Cory Black, reserve umpire Chris Brown, and match referee Ranjan Madugalle. Live telecast was provided by the Sony Sports Network and SonyLIV in India, and Sky Sport in New Zealand.

In parallel sports developments highlighting the intersection of baseball and cricket, Major League Baseball launched its fast-paced 3-on-3 competition, MLBx, in Mumbai, India. The exhibition event at the Mumbai Football Arena brought together prominent MLB legends, softball standouts, and elite Indian cricket stars, including national team captain Suryakumar Yadav, to celebrate athletic connections between the two sports.
