Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory against AEK Athens during Wednesday's fourth-round UEFA Champions League league-phase clash, with midfielder Jude Bellingham delivering a historic performance. The Spanish club had to overcome a 2-1 deficit before Fede Valverde scored the decisive goal in stoppage time, pushing Real Madrid to 12 points at the top of the standings alongside Paris Saint-Germain.

Before the match even kicked off, Bellingham entered the record books. By appearing in the starting lineup, he became the youngest player in Champions League history to reach 60 appearances, achieving the milestone at just 23 years and 128 days old. He surpassed the previous record held by Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas, who reached the 60-appearance mark at 23 years and 167 days old.

Bellingham celebrated his record-breaking night with a moment of brilliance on the pitch. In the first half, the England midfielder capitalized on a cross from teammate Marc Cucurella and executed a spectacular backheel goal to level the score. According to Opta figures, the strike marked Bellingham's 10th Champions League goal in a Real Madrid shirt across 37 appearances in the competition.

This milestone made Bellingham only the second midfielder to reach double figures for Real Madrid in the tournament. José María Gutiérrez, widely known as "Guti", holds the club record among midfielders with 16 goals from 97 matches. Additionally, Mister Chip noted that Bellingham joined an exclusive club of English players by scoring in each of the last seven Champions League seasons, a scoring streak that began during his time with Borussia Dortmund before continuing at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Following the match, Real Madrid manager José Mourinho heaped high praise on the 23-year-old star during his press conference. Mourinho commended Bellingham's comprehensive skill set and unique status in modern soccer.

"Since I arrived, who is not doing well? He is a unique player, I think. There is no player in the world of football today like Jude in the center of the field, he is complete on all levels," Mourinho stated, translating his remarks about the midfielder's exceptional capabilities.

The Portuguese coach also emphasized Bellingham's relentless work ethic and leadership on the pitch, noting that even when he does not play his best match, he consistently provides hard work, ambition, and a knack for scoring. With 15 goals and 13 assists now to his name across 60 Champions League appearances, Bellingham continues to cement his status as one of the premier talents in the sport.
