Kylian Mbappé starred for Real Madrid in a 2-1 victory against Barcelona at Camp Nou, scoring two goals and securing a notable twentieth-century milestone in El Clásico. The twenty-seven-year-old forward reached eight goals in his first seven derby matches against the Catalan side, surpassing the previous record set by Lionel Messi, who scored six goals in his first seven matches against the club's eternal rival.

The double also placed Mbappé alongside Josep Samitier in 1932 and Pahiño in 1951 as the only players in the history of the Spanish giant to net eight goals in their opening seven appearances against Barcelona. Furthermore, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco player reached his one-hundredth goal for Real Madrid in his one hundred sixteenth match with the club.

The victory under manager José Mourinho ended Barcelona's twenty-three-match unbeaten run at home and tightened the standings in La Liga. Barcelona remains at the top of the table with twenty-seven points, followed by Atlético de Madrid with twenty-five points and Real Madrid in third place with twenty-four points.

Mourinho's tactical approach involved maintaining possession and exploiting the spaces left by Barcelona's advanced defensive line. The strategy relied on verticality and speed through players like Mbappé, Arda Güler, and Sinaly Diomande to break through the opponent's pressure and capitalize on defensive vulnerabilities.

While club football dominated headlines in Spain, the nation also focused on national politics as voters headed to the polls for the second round of the 2026 presidential election. More than 158.7 million eligible citizens participated in the runoff vote between incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of the Workers' Party and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party.

Voting took place across the country under the supervision of the Superior Electoral Court, with preliminary results beginning to roll out following the close of polling stations. The election determined the leadership of the federal government as well as gubernatorial races in several states, including Amazonas.

Mbappé will travel to London for the 2026 Ballon d'Or gala at the London Palladium Theatre, where he is among the candidates for the prestigious award alongside other football stars such as Lamine Yamal, Harry Kane, and Lionel Messi.
