The Liga MX Apertura 2026 season continues to deliver high-stakes action as Chivas de Guadalajara and Tigres UANL pursue their respective tournament objectives. Following a competitive encounter earlier in the season that ended in a 1-1 draw at the Estadio AKRON, both squads have experienced differing fortunes in subsequent fixtures.

Chivas entered recent weeks holding strong momentum. Prior to facing Necaxa at home, the Guadalajara side secured a 1-1 draw against Atlas in the Clásico Tapatío at the Estadio Jalisco. Their solid campaign performance was further reinforced during Matchday 13, when Chivas claimed a narrow victory over Necaxa thanks to an own goal by Agustín Oliveros in the 77th minute following a cross from Roberto Alvarado.

This crucial victory lifted Chivas to the upper echelon of the league table, securing the second position overall with 23 points, placing them just one point behind league leaders América. Earlier statistical snapshots from the tournament highlighted Chivas in fifth place with 19 points after 11 matches, boasting a record of five wins, four draws, and two defeats.

Conversely, Tigres UANL has encountered a more challenging stretch in the tournament. Following their draw with Chivas and a subsequent 3-2 victory over Toluca—highlighted by two goals from Juan Brunetta and one from Guillermo Martínez—Tigres sat in the 13th position with 13 points after 11 games. Their struggles continued into Matchday 13 under the direction of manager Víctor Manuel Vucetich.

Tigres faced a tough 2-0 defeat against León at the Estadio Universitario. The match was heavily impacted by roster absences, notably the suspension of star player Juan Brunetta following a red card received during the previous clash with Guadalajara, alongside a defensive injury to Joaquim Pereira. León capitalized on defensive miscues to secure the three points.

Looking ahead, both clubs remain focused on securing direct qualification spots for the Liguilla as the regular season enters its final stretch. Chivas aims to maintain its position near the summit of Mexican professional soccer, while Tigres looks to regroup and overcome its recent setbacks to keep playoff aspirations alive.
