Los Angeles Rams Defeat Las Vegas Raiders 35-21 in Week 7
The Rams secured a dominant victory over the Raiders, dropping Las Vegas to a 3-4 record after a slow start and four consecutive losses.
The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 35-21 on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium, handing the Raiders their fourth consecutive loss. With the victory, both teams now share identical 3-4 records, though their trajectories heading past the early portion of the NFL season stand in stark contrast.
Las Vegas fell behind 28-3 early in the contest and struggled to find any momentum on either side of the ball for the majority of the afternoon. First-year head coach Klint Kubiak accepted the blame for the slow start, telling reporters after the game that his team failed to execute early.
"We started way too slow," Kubiak said. "It's very disappointing. I thought our guys were ready to play. We just didn't execute early in the game."
The Raiders attempted a comeback late in the third quarter and into the fourth, as Kirk Cousins connected on touchdown passes to Tre Tucker and Ashton Jeanty to narrow the deficit to 28-18, though both two-point conversion attempts failed. However, the Las Vegas defense continued to struggle, allowing 30 or more points for the fourth consecutive week as the Rams quickly answered with another touchdown.
Offensively, the Raiders were unable to establish a consistent running game, and the offensive line struggled to protect Cousins against persistent pressure from the Rams' front. Kubiak noted the offense's difficulties on crucial downs, mentioning that they failed to convert on fourth down three different times while trying to extend drives.
"We have to make plays," Kubiak stated. "We have to make throws. We have to make catches. It didn't happen."
Defensively, the Raiders committed multiple missed tackles and blown assignments, leading linebacker Quay Walker to emphasize the need for fundamental improvement. "It's about doing the little things," Walker said. "It's about technique. It's about communication. We just have to go out there and execute."
Safety Isaiah Pola-Mao echoed those sentiments, stressing the importance of team-wide execution and creating turnovers to support the offense. As the Raiders prepare for their upcoming schedule and the trade deadline approaches, the team faces mounting pressure to address its current vulnerabilities.
